Finished Khorne Angels

Well it took 2 years, but I finally finished Khorne, probably because I was commissioned to do them.

Astorath/Kharn
I sold the army to a mate at the beginning of the year, and since then hes been using some of the models in his Khorne army, and playing with unfinished berzerkers. There's a tournament in 2 weeks he wants to play at with a requirement of painted model, so I got the job of finishing what I started.

All of the models were built using the FW torso and heads, and plastic CSM legs. Each set of legs has been converted slightly to give a greater sense of motion than the stock legs have (ie none), I really think GW missed an opportunity to redo the plastic warriors.

Since they had to be painted to match an existing army I couldn't use and weathering on them, it was an interesting exercise to paint "clean" again. I prefer dirty.

The blood effects were done with tamiya clear red, then a second coat of TCR and a touch of black acrylic, the acrylic and whatever the TCR is based on react and the paint gets thicker, making it perfect for congealed blood and gore.

The backpacks are also all magnetised, to make is easy to run them as Death company with jump packs if necessary.

The whole gang

I apologise for the shonky pics, I really need a better camera then my iPhone4.

Thanks for stopping by.

Sons of Horus Praetors

Hi again, more procrastination sees some more models finished in a familiar scheme. these aren't for me though, but a commission.

FW sent through some very nice casts, though I didn't realise til I painted the face that the right eye of the terminator was miscast, so I turned it into a scar, and in a first for me, the swords were all straight! No hot water required.

The bases are from Dragon-forge, and were quite nicely cast too.

Following my normal tradition of taking poo photos though the bases and gold lack depth in the shots, I really need to set up a proper photo booth.

What do you think of the base colour? Should I change mine from the urban to this? I kind of like how the sea green pops off the base.

Thanks for looking.

Legion of Everblight Gargantuan! Archangel.

I've managed to get a couple of commissions recently, I was approached to paint something for a system that I wouldn't normally look at because the models just don't interest me, Warmachine. However there has been one model I just loved from the moment I saw the WIP sculpts. The legion everblight Archangel.

Who's a pretty boy then?

It is a monster, gargantuan in every sense, and so cool I would have eventually gotten one for myself if I wasn't commissioned to do it.

WIP scale shot. Don't mind the mess.
The casting is big, the components are big, the stupidity is big. The only complaint (though it s big one) I have about this model is the way the components have been cast and the materials selection. There are 3 materials, resin, pewter/whitemetal, and restic. The breackdown of how the parts have been chosen for each piece baffles me. If you have the technology for resin, do it all in resin.

Big vents, with the detail cast into them.
All the extremities are metal (the hooks on the wings, the face/head, the spines on the back, and the tail. This is madness. The last 4 inches of the tail are metal, and are supposed to hang unsupported from the base of the resin tail section.

Apart from that annoyance, the model was almost flawlessly cast, with only one minor and one major mold slip, and both easily corrected, less then 10 total airbubbles, again easily fixed.

After washing the resin and greenstuffing the areas where the components mated I commenced with painting, using vallejo airbrush primer for the first time, it goes on like a dream, so smooth, good adhesion, and can even be done at night in the cold and damp with no threat of bubbling or roughness.

The scheme was not chosen by me being a commission, but I'm still reasonably happy with how the sons of horus green translated to the everblight.

I added some red glazes to the wings for interest, and blended them back into the flesh with highlights and a pass or two of the airbrush. The wings are also magnetised for ease of transport and storage, which is why they don't quite marry up to the shoulders.

Shoddy photoshop of the edges, didn't all fit in the booth.
As a last point of interest I added some OSL from the soul fire the Everblight dragon spawn breathe. It added a nice spot colour too and stopped the scheme from being too boring.

The base was left plain so the client can add his recipe for snow to keep it consistent with the rest of his collection.

Finally an almost identical shot, but showing the scale of the finished beast.

Thanks for looking. Hope you like it and found my ramblings entertaining.

Please let me know what you think.

Orks!

Well its been a while, Uni is taking alot more time then I thought, especially since I'm not a maths brain doing engineering . . .

But I do still need to eat. So I've finished up a commission addition for an old army I sold 3 years ago, as the title says Orks.

This army was originally painted in 2010 while I was recuperating from an ankle injury. I went on to win several tournaments and a couple more podiums, an oddity for me because I've always been a painter first, gamer second.

The additions have taken waaaaayyyy to long to paint, but because they weren't a priority for the owner they got put on the back burner several times, and forgotten about in moves etc. But I finally finished them!

So, presenting . .

This should be the last painting I do for this army until the new codex drops, when hopefully shiney syndrom will hit my client and I'll get some more work :)

Until next time, thanks for looking.
