Not so Dark Eldar

Hello all, back from another patented long break between posts, but I come bearing pics!

Dark Eldar Killteam (200 points)
Recently its been apparent that there is a trend for new codex's to increase the amount of miniatures you need to paint for a complete army, leading to alot of burn out among the player base locally. we all still love GW models, and fluff and play the game regularly, but its just so hard to finish a new army!

More "after the jump"..... what a stupid turn of phrase.

This has lead to everyone embracing the smaller point/model count options, the explosion of infinity, and other "skirmish" games.

Venom, the white is whiter IRL

Our gaming club sought to harness this energy and so I decided to paint some Dark Eldar so people would be able to play something other than Space Marines (and also since I have about 4000 points of DE sitting in boxes . . .).

Venom, I'll clean up the cockpit glass later, a lens effect might be on the cards except it s bitch to mask
Not being one to go with convention, I looked around on the net for inspiration and found a bright orange scheme by hyv3mynd, of the Mandulain Chapel, and plagiarism being the sincerest form of flattery I copied the basic scheme and changed a few details, just like a good essay.

Dat ass
The orange to black fade was done with an airbrush, which I think is on its last legs, and will soon be relegated to just doing terrain, using a mix of Tamiya, Mr hobby and GW paints, I then highlighted every edge with a pastel yellow, to tie it all together, and black lined with Nuln oil and chaos black mix.

The grass on all the models was supplied by Gamers grass, great guys, and heaps cheaper than the competition
Some of the highlights on the legs of the warriors are a bit ropey, but they'll do for Table top quality, and "proof of concept" if(when) I do more I'll tighten it up.

Chaff aka Warriors
The models have a few subtle conversions, mainly just arm reposes to open the poses up a bit.

Cannon fodder aka Wyches

My favourite models are definitely the Reavers, and if(when) these blossom into a full army there will be atleast 9 of them in the list. I'm looking forward to tackling this scheme on the DE flyers too.
Reavers, look fast standing still
Zooming noises have been made
Thanks for stopping in, let me know what you think.

  2. While I'm not keen on the pilots painted canopy on the Venom I do like the scheme a lot. The fade on the infantry looks particularly good - even better than on the jetbikes and Venom.

About time you did an update...

  4. Great looking force so far - the vibrant scheme really helps add an element of detail (just from the airbrushed transitions alone), very clever my friend! :)

    1. I actually mixed a Hi-vis fluorescent orange in to add to the vibrancy, so glad it comes across in the pics :)

    1. please don't, they took a while to paint, and I'm sure they wouldn't be good for you.

  8. Easily some of the best Dark Eldar I've seen.

That scheme is so wrong, but yet so right for them it's unreal.

    1. Thanks mate, that's a big call, there's some great DE out there, and I agree, if someone described them to me I'd think they were crazy.
