Hive Guard painting tut

Hi everyone, here's the second half of my hive guard build series. Painting, for many years I used GW black undercoat for EVERYTHING! however recently, since I started using an airbrush mostly, I have been using Tamiya grey surface primer. It still comes from a rattle can, however the colour is much easier to lay lighter coloured paints over, which is especially handy for my nid scheme.

Hive Guard

Hi everybody; long time between posts.
Unfortunately I haven't made much progress on my SoH, uni and life have been getting in the way of my much more important hobby activities.
I did however get to play in QM 3 over last weekend, and as usual it was a well run event, and I had a great time catching up with mates and playing some games of 40k.
I was lucky enough to win players choice again with my nids

And best painted went to my good friend John, and his amazingly painted Carcarodons space marines. He has a blog HERE which I recommend you go check out, he's a very prolific and quality painter.

Group shot

So all the completely assembled models before primer.

I hadn't realised until I took this pic that the contemptor and Sgt model were in such a similar pose, guess I'll have to add some more variety to the future models.

The basing was done with a mix of cork, crushed slate, glued down with superglue, before adding some secret weapons razor wire.

So more assembly of the rest of the squad to follow, and waiting for paint to arrive. . .

Sons bolter boys

Progress has been slow, but steady, getting into the meat and veg of any SM army now, the bolter carriers, or ablative wounds for you heavy and special weapons if you'd prefer.

Guy on the end is dropping his bolter.

Sgt something

Finished assembling the first infantry figure for the Sons, took alot more time and fiddling around then I anticipated, the combination of various Mks of armour give a nice feel I think, and is something I can see happening during a protracted siege like the siege of Terra.

SGT something
The arms are from the plastic CSM set, and are a nice analogue for Mk2 once your file off the extraneous detail.

I hope to have the first 5-10 men finished by the end of next week, but that may blow out due to my time being taken up by work/uni entrance course I started a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for looking.

Sons of Horus

As I'm sure many of you have, I've been reading the Horus Heresy series, and as I'm sure many of you will agree, its an excellent series.

Now I've decided to devote my horde of FW marine Mks to the dark gods, and do the main protagonist forces of the Sons of Horus legion. I'll be doing them in the Sea green scheme, the sort of interim scheme between the Lunar Wolves and the Black Legion schemes, I think it will look striking on the tabletop, and more importantly to me be fun to paint and weather.

Plagiarism or just paranoia?

So most of you who have seen my work, or have been on my photobucket will remember these guys.

And I made this tutorial, 4 years ago to show everyone else how they could do the same, apologies for the pic quality, it was 4 years ago . .

Now I'm sure alot of you read/watch BoLS, and may have seen the article on how to do a simple autumn camouflage . . .

And this is his article . .

So am I just being paranoid? What do you think?
